2017/18 Open Positions

As we head off to summer we are looking to secure a few key PTA roles for next year. Anyone is welcome to join our volunteer army. Here are a few of the roles (and their responsibilities) that we hope you will consider. Thank you to all our volunteers- Alki wouldn’t be what it is without your time and dedication. DUDES & DOUGHNUTS CHAIR

  • Fall Event held in October
  • Advance coordinating of doughnut/coffee donation
  • Market in Enews/Currents in weeks leading up to event
  • Coordinate volunteers to pick up/serve coffee and doughnuts
  • Clean up after event
  • Thank volunteers in PTA publications post even
  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours planning/communicating. 2 hours day of event

PTA MEETING CHILDCARE COORDINATOR

  • Summer – Connect with West Seattle High School Activities Director
  • Create volunteer list of High School Students looking for Service Learning Hours
  • Communicate Alki PTA General Meeting Schedule and Curriculum Night dates.
  • Secure 4-8 volunteers per monthly PTA meeting.
  • Send reminders to volunteers week prior to meetings and day of
  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours initial planning. ½ hour/month communicating 

PTA VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR(S)

  • Summer – Create Volunteer Survey for distribution to families
  • September/October – Establish list of volunteers and contact info
  • Help connect willing volunteers with opportunities suited to their skills and availability – Meet lots of Alki families!
  • Be point person/support for PTA Event/Program Chairs
  • Communicate volunteer needs in Enews/Currents as needed
  • Oversee/update PTA Signupgenius
  • Time Commitment:  varied. 2-4 hours initially.  1-2 hours/month’

YEARBOOK COORDINATOR(S)

  • Work with school photographer’s (Yen Lui) web-based yearbook design software
  • Coordinate and communicate Yearbook Cover Contest and facilitate submissions and winner selection
  • Market yearbook sales window and deadlines with take home flyers and in Enews and Currents
  • Collect all monies for PTA deposit and track and submit orders
  • Source candid photos ensuring only students with “media consent” are published
  • Time Commitment: varied. 4-8 hours/month January-April

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK CHAIR(S)

  • Plan and coordinate appreciation event(s) during National Teacher Appreciation Week (1st complete week of May)
  • Solicit staff input regarding schedules and “wish lists” for the event
  • Coordinate/delegate volunteers to execute ideas (whether daily events or single event)
  • Create Signupgenius including all volunteer opportunities for event
  • Communicate the week’s events to staff and families with flyers, Enews and Currents
  • Thank volunteers in PTA publications post event
  • Time Commitment: varied.  4-6 hours planning. 4-6 hours week of event

REFLECTIONS CHAIR
**Reflections is a National PTA art program/contest held September-November available to ALL students who wish to participate**

  • Communicate the Reflections theme, categories and submission deadlines via flyers, Currents and Enews
  • Create plan to encourage student participation and engagement
  • Collect artwork from participants for submission to Seattle Council PTA
  • Plan Awards ceremony for Alki participants in December
  • Display submissions at Alki Arts Night in the Spring
  • Help facilitate future communications for any Alki participant whose submission may advance to local, state or national level
  • Time Commitment: varied. 6-10 hours/Month (Sep-Nov) 2-3 ongoing

ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR

  • Help secure PTA Room Parents for every classroom in September
  • Ensure Room Parents have established a classroom email roster of participating families
  • Coordinate a Room Parent social to communicate ideas, best practices and responsibilities
  • Help facilitate and ensure PTA Communications to and from Room Parents are timely and consistent
  • Time Commitment: varied. 2-3 hours/month

SITE IMPROVEMENT CHAIR(S)

  • Work with Principal, custodian and PTA Board in targeting school site improvement projects
  • Plan, budget and coordinate volunteers to execute purchasing supplies and implementing improvement projects
  • Act as liaison with SPS Self Help Department for any projects requiring SPS approval
  • Communicate volunteer needs in Enews and Currents
  • Thank volunteers in PTA communications
  • Time Commitment: varied depending upon improvement project 

SPIRITWEAR CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR(S)

  • Familiarizing yourself with Customink.com and Booster.com merchandise and campaign program
  • Work with PTA Board in establishing Spiritwear items for purchase and timeline of campaign
  • Submit items/artwork to Booster and manage online Fall/Spring campaigns
  • Market campaign with Posters, Flyers, Enews and Currents
  • Receive bulk shipment and distribute orders to students
  • Time Commitment: 4-6 hours planning and communicating each campaign and distributing Spiritwear
