Alki School Tours for Prospective Families

We, the PTA, are so happy to hear that you’re interested in learning more about our school. Of course you already know about the fantastic location – no other Seattle school can claim a location quite like ours, with Seattle’s best beach located a block away from the front doors of the school.

But wait! There’s more:

In October 2018 our Principal, Rena Deese, was awarded the Thomas B. Foster Award for Excellence. The Foster Award honors an outstanding Seattle Public Schools Principal who is leading with excellence and closing opportunity gaps in their school.
The PTA’s mission statement for this year is “Everyone belongs. Everyone matters.” We’re working hand-in-hand with Principal Deese to make that a reality for every family in our Alki community.
Community engagement: Back-to-School BBQ, Family breakfast 2x/year, family movie night, kindergarten social potluck, school musical (this year it’s Willy Wonka!), walk to school day, bike to school day, Razzle Dazzle carnival and BBQ
Opportunities: Writers in the Schools, Alki Adventures, Camp Burton, National Spelling Bee, Field Day, Roots of Empathy, Makerspace, Global Reading Challenge

Welcome all incoming Kinder Families!

Welcome to Alki Elementary! I joined the board this year as Secretary, and my son is in the second grade with Ms. Nye this year (he is super excited about being upstairs now!). Alki Elementary is a special place. It starts from the top with Mrs. Deese, our principal. She has an open door policy and always a moment to discuss any issue affecting one of her children or families. This naturally flows to our teachers, who develop equitable relationships with all students at the school, crossing class assignments and grade bands. As a board, we believe it is important that we reflect the same inclusive and open-armed mindset. We provide childcare and welcome all families to our meetings, membership is not required to join the conversations as we advocate for the children at Alki and beyond. I hope we have the opportunity to make personal introductions soon, if not at a meeting… perhaps movie night – one of my favorite PTA events.
