May Family First Friday:  Virtual Trip to Hawaii

Aloha! The PTA Family and Engagement Committee is excited to bring Hawaii to Alki Elementary. Alki families are invited to experience Hawaiian culture at our May Family First Friday event.

Featuring special guest speakers zooming in from the island of Kauai: Storyteller Ian Letret and Hula Dancer Kealamailapakalana Parongao.

Mr. Letret is knowledgeable on Hawaiian mythology, and will tell Hawaiian ghost stories.

Mrs. Parongao has been dancing hula for almost 50 years, and teaches hula and ukulele to the community at Waimea High School. Join us in learning the song Huki I Ke Kalo. The dance tells of how kalo (taro) is harvested, pounded, & eaten. Kalo is a root vegetable that is an important food staple in the Pacific.
