During these unprecedented times of true uncertainty, Alki Elementary has set out to shine the light on small businesses and families in need here in West Seattle. We have always relied on our community’s support to help us fund staff positions (counselor, nurse, and hourly staff) and programs within our school, and our community has never let us down. Now, our call to return that support is clear. We are filled with ideas and moving forcefully with meaningful action through our “IN communITy TOGETHER” initiative.
By way of our collective minds and hearts, we have already launched 6 separate efforts during this pandemic, honoring our mission to serve and support those our own neighborhood.
Selling flowers for our local flower farmers on Mother’s Day was wildly successful. Thank you to everyone that purchased these lovely bouquets. The idea lives on, as other schools have adopted our model and continue to host sales for Lee Lor Gardens and Blong’s Garden.
For Father’s Day we supported Husky Deli, The Beer Junction, and Safeway on Admiral as we sold DIY ROOT BEER FLOAT KITS for drive thru pick-up at Husky Deli on Father’s Day, June 21st.
Our initiative to FEED THOSE IN NEED is the pride and joy of IN IT TOGETHER. We have partnered with the existing effort of local restaurants here in West Seattle (The Westy, Mission Cantina, The Bridge, Peel and Press, and West 5), as well as the Alibi Room at Pike Place Market to provide healthy meals to first responders, seniors, healthcare workers, and those experiencing food insecurities due to the pandemic. A $10 donation will provide one meal as well as support our local community needs through ALKI CARES FUND. Alki Cares supports families severely impacted by COVID19, providing them with groceries, supplies, and more. To date, we have provided 235 meals!
Alki Pumpkin Patch: We set up a pumpkin patch for families to pick up their pre-ordered pumpkins and boo bucket kits with safe, no-contact pickup from Ampersand Cafe. Thank you to Safeway, Thriftway and Home Depot for providing pumpkins!
Thanksgiving Sale: In November, we focused on giving thanks. Our community has come together in so many beautiful ways during this challenging time, and to honor that, we put together a fundraiser to show our gratitude to you. A one-stop shop of local goods curated with you in mind, simplifying your to-do list for the Thanksgiving season. By partnering with Remlinger Farm, Blongs Garden flower grower and Macrina Bakery, we offered gifts of gratitude and delicious food for around your dinner table.
Fall Into Giving: Donations were collected from our community to restock the Alki Pantry (located outside of Alki Elementary) with holiday favorites during the Thanksgiving break. Volunteers shopped for and delivered pies, fresh fruit, rolls and pantry staples to the pantry.
The Holiday Emporium has been our largest local business collaboration to date. Alki PTA brought you a sampling of the very best Seattle has to offer as we support local businesses alongside our local school community. Chocolates, Cherries, Seasonings, Coffee, and so much more. We partnered with Chukar Cherries, Herban Farms, Blongs Garden, Theo Chocolates, Olympia Coffee, and Glass Goat Candles and offered a sampling of there products at retail value to our community with local, drive-thru no-contact pickup in time for the holidays. Gift giving was made even easier with a Click and Ship option to send local favorites to family and friends around the country.
To top it off, Alki PTA offered drive thru pictures with Santa and personalized letters from the North pole to all of our Alki families with no purchase necessary.
This year’s Alki Annual Giving Garland looked different this year due to at-home learning, so Alki PTA collected donations and provided Principal Skeffington Gift Cards to Safeway and Target to give to families in need.
